I'm Alexandra Degiorgio, but my friends call me Alex. I'm a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Fast Like A Girl™ Coach. I'm also a proud single mother to a smart, spirited teenage daughter.
My story begins on a small Mediterranean island, where the values of family, community, simplicity, and wholesome living shaped my early years. Transitioning to Australia during my teen years and early twenties exposed me to diverse cultures and expanded my worldview. These heightened when I moved to New York City in my mid-twenties. I savored the energy, bustle and endless variety of NYC and continued to enjoy good health rooted in a Mediterranean-inspired lifestyle through my mid-thirties.
I contemplated a job change within the same industry, but deep down, I knew it wouldn't bring the peace I sought. That's when I made a pivotal decision for my daughter and me—we left bustling New York City for the tranquil embrace of San Diego, trading the concrete jungle for oceanfront serenity. Our new home, nestled amidst nature's beauty, offered some solace and a fresh start but I remained stressed and continued to struggle in many aspects of my life.
Then my tween daughter began experiencing excruciating stomach pains that left her bedridden for hours.
I hit a roadblock in my late thirties. Stress levels soared, my physical vitality dwindled, and those stubborn pounds refused to budge. Making matters worse, my once peaceful sleep began to elude me as I consistently shortened it to accommodate my endless to-do list. Night after night, I tossed and turned, my mind racing with worries and anxieties. I assumed it was all an inevitable part of approaching perimenopause and getting older. I meticulously monitored my diet, abstained from indulgences, and squeezed in workouts, but made marginal progress. Juggling a high-pressure corporate job while being a single parent only escalated my stress. I found myself struggling and discontented at a time when I should have been celebrating my successes.
My daughter's health problem was the breaking point for my stress and anxieties. Seeking medical help, we consulted a gastroenterologist at a renowned children's hospital. The doctor promptly turned to tests and procedures. After a battery of invasive tests, the results were consistently normal. Yet, my daughter continued to suffer, and I was stretched thin managing the mounting medical bills. Worst of all, it was heartbreaking to witness her pain and feel powerless to ease it. For more than 14 months, I was constantly anxious and on edge, in fear of the next time my daughter would be in awful pain.
In a moment of deep despair, I summoned my inner strength and resolved to transform our lives through dietary and lifestyle changes. Inspired by podcasts and my growing knowledge of lasting health and wellness, I made small, meaningful adjustments to our daily routine.
Today, my daughter no longer experiences those debilitating stomach issues, and I have never felt more energetic, active, and content.
My journey from confusion and despair to vitality and purpose has ignited my passion for serving and supporting other moms. I started Mindful Wellness Journey to provide health coaching and wellness education for moms on their path to wellness.
I’m dedicated to staying at the forefront of health and wellness knowledge, learning from esteemed doctors, scientists, and other acknowledged experts to continually expand my understanding of the intricate interplay between body, mind, and spirit.
